PLAY! By Sephora (#6 February 2016)

I’ve been a subscriber to Sephora’s monthly subscription box and thought of doing a review but none of the boxes I had received in the prior months really excited me enough to do so…. until NOW!

PLAY! by Sephora for February 2016 was filled with items that I tried as soon as I got home from a super long hump day and ones that I will use until I’m forced to go buy the full-size products. I feel like I definitely got my $10 worth this month.

Box #06 is called “Now & Later”. It’s all about lip tips, hairstyle savers, pure essentials, and more how-tos for looking your best all day – and night. Basically, a bunch of essentials to keep in your purse at all times.

Let’s jump right to the lips. My favorite! I’m super picky about lipsticks and usually stick to lip gloss or Carmex. I’m always so self-conscious about the color and feel like I’m too pale to pull off a bold lip. Also- the fact that my upper lip disappears when I smile doesn’t help me at all.

First, I tried Pop of Passion by BareMinerals in Plumberry Pop. It was very…moist. My one-word description isn’t far off because it is a tinted oil-balm. Super hydrating and shiny.

On to the lipstick! Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artists Natural in N9 Copper Pink. It’s a subtle color and at first, I didn’t think I saw any pigment at all. My little guide book states that this color is universal and will work with any skin tone. I’m so down with that due to my lipstick anxiety. This is going in my bag and I’ll be using it until it’s gone.

Do you recognize this lipstick from somewhere? It’s the Beauty Insider birthday gift from 2014. It’s new to me but there have been many complaints from Sephora loyalists who are saying, “yo, are these leftovers?”

I’ve never heard anything bad about Bumble and Bumble. Ever. I’ve been eyeing their dry shampoo and have been debating on getting the pricey little bottle since December. Guess what was in the box?! hehe Prêt-à-Powder

Mind you, I’ve only used aerosol cans of dry shampoo but never powder. I just felt like I would put way too much powder in my hair and it wouldn’t soak in and since my hair is so dark, I’d just have an awful experience. I need a little practice using powder but I have faith I’ll pick it up quickly. I had a little trouble at first, as you’ll see in the pictures below where i have gobs of powder on my head, but was happy in the end.

Next, is my least favorite out of my favorite box, tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara. I loved the packaging but as soon as I saw the brush head, I hated it. The formula of the mascara itself was really thick and when I put on the second coat it started clumping. My lashes look fab but it didn’t feel like it was going as great as it turned out. To be totally honest, I don’t have many products from tarte so I’m not totally knocking them because I’m pleased with the outcome.

We also got eyeliner from Lancôme. I feel like there’s been an eyeliner in every box. I have enough mini eyeliners to last me until my 50th birthday. The DRAMA LIQUI-PENCIL Longwear Eyeliner is different than a regular pencil. When I was applying it I felt like I was drawing with a melty crayon. That’s the best way to describe it. Very gel-eyeliner like in mushy pencil form. Super dark and thick.

Also, since I’m not a ‘beauty blogger’ I tried out the mascara first before the eye liner and eye liner after mascara is something you should never do so I don’t have a picture of it on my lids. I will learn from my mistakes…

And, last but not least… The perfume, Black Orchard by Tom Ford. I never ever keep perfume samples but this smells uh-mazing. Obviously. Tom Ford is amazing.

That’s all folks! How do you feel about this month’s box? Should I review next month’s box? What monthly makeup boxes are you enrolled in?
